charities and giving back
i can remember, as children, my sister and i would usually do the “Trick or Treat for UNICEF” thing and my whole family was often involved with selling poppies for The American Lung Association and The American Heart Association. both of my parents were always involved in charity work and i’ve tried to do that myself as an adult.
when i was in the US Army i supported monetarily the Heart Association as well as the Arthritis Foundation and The National Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse. for the last 20 years or so, it hasn’t been so easy to support charities from a monetary perspective, but my family has been involved with The Cobb County Family Resource Center in passing out Thanksgiving meals, MUST ministries which provides support for needy families with clothing and food, The Hope Center which is a crisis-pregnancey counseling center, and a few other local charities.
my hope is as God blesses my efforts in my new businesses and other personal pursuits that my family and i will be able to give back even more. one thing i’m doing this year is participating in the 3-day walk for Breast Cancer whose funds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. i don’t know yet whether i will be walking or will be a Crew member or Volunteer, but i am definitely going to be involved this year and for every year for the rest of my life.
i have a few very personal reasons for doing this and will be sharing more about it here in the very near future, but i hope you will consider doing the walk yourself or at least getting involved in it so we can wipe out this terrible disease. click here for this year’s schedule and the different cities in which the walk is taking place.
